Through out the ages, artists have been
inspired by the rediscovery of historical design. Examples
such as the Renaissance's enlightened embrace of Roman
frescos and the Napoleonic love of Pharonic Egypt was
never a passive adaptation. Each age reinterpreted the
era of their fascination to suit the taste and style of
their time. Chatsworth carries on that tradition and draws
inspiration from the 19th century rediscovery of all things
Gothic. In the spirit of William Morris, Pugin and Rossetti,
Evans & Brown create a complex labyrinth of Gothic
arabesques and scrolling vines intertwined with the dimensional
illusion of a bas-relief.
